Blog Industrial dust collectors: models and functions

What are industrial dust collectors and what are they used for?

In this article, we will explore this concept in more detail to show the usefulness of these systems and the benefits that can be derived from their daily use in industry.

Dedusting systems are equipment designed to control air pollution and whose function is to remove dust and waste production material from the working environment. It is therefore easy to understand, even from this simple description, the importance of such systems to ensure safety within the company, as well as to prevent any health problems, and to preserve the various production lines present for longer.

Industrial dust collectors are usually used where there are particular activities and in specific sectors, such as:

  • Welding and grinding
  • Laser and plasma cutting
  • Sanding and deburring
  • Sandblasting
  • Metal cleaning and grinding
  • Blasting and shot peening
  • Food industry
  • Chemical sector
  • Pharmaceutical sector
  • Dry tumbling
  • Woodworking
  • Cement works
  • Handling of dusty materials
  • Epoxy and powder coating

Dust suppression: meaning and available models of dust collectors

The task of industrial dust collectors is to filtrate and abate dust, i.e. to remove the dust present in the air stream, reducing its concentration as much as possible.

To do this, there are different types of dust collectors which differ in their operating mechanism. This is because not all types of dust, as well as the production areas where such systems are installed, have the same characteristics.

The most commonly used types of industrial dust collectors include:

  • Dry dust collectors, designed to mechanically block the dust present according to physical principles.
  • Wet dust collectors, which use water screens or wet surfaces to trap airborne particles.

All the different models of dust collectors have the task of eliminating particles in the environment, breaking down pollutants that are harmful to the body and the air. These systems will therefore not only protect the health of workers by making the environment safer, but also preserve the production facilities present for longer.
